Large, heavy head with a white nose on short thick neck. Light sandy to dark brown body with a pale belly. Short, erect, dark, brown or black mane with no forelock, dark brown dorsal stripe. Long dark brown or black tail with short hairs along the bone, unlike domestic horses. Lower parts of legs usually black; black stripes on legs of some individuals. Mates May-July. Gestation period: 327-357 days. Grassy steppe or semi-desert. Reintroduced to three areas in Mongolia: Takhiin Tal Nature Reserve in theGobi B Specially Protected Area, Hustai National Park, and Khomiin Tal ( Seeriin Nuruu ) in the buffer zone of Khar Us Nuur National Park.
